Section One > Surrounded By The Presence Of God

A group of worshippers were seen tapping on trees and stones whispering, “Are you there?  Are you there?” to the god they hoped might reside in there.   This is called pantheism, which views god is everything and everyone and that everyone and everything is god.  The God of the Bible sees that God is there but also here.  He is everywhere, not kept or confined in the tree or stone.  The true God is present in every point of time and space.  He is eternal and not limited by time and space.  We are always surrounded by the presence of God.  God wants us to know His greatness through experiencing His all-present attribute. Although our human mind cannot comprehend God fully, we know that God loves us and wants us to understand His greatness and majesty in order to experience the depth of His love.  This study will help you to explore the unfathomable attribute of our ever present God!

  1. What are some different phrases that describe the omnipresent attribute of God?
  2. Have you ever experienced a time when you need to be multi-task or you want to be present at different places at a given point in time? How do you feel when you are limited by space and time?
  3. In Psalm 139: 7-12, how does King David describe the omnipresent/all-present character of God? When you think of God as being present everywhere, what feelings do you have? What does this passage teach you about God’s involvement in your life?
  4. Please read the account of “Almighty God’s encounter with Baal at Mount Camel” (1 King 18:20-40). How does God demonstrate His ever-present, space limitless attribute in this story? How does it reveal the greatness of God? How does verse 27 describe about the limitations of the false god, Baal?
  5. What are some things people do to get away from God and what He wants them to do?
  6. Read Genesis 3:1-22. Why did our ever-present God ask Adam and Eve where they were? Where did Adam and Eve try to hide from God? Why? When do you attempt to avoid being in the presence of God? How does knowing God is everywhere influence what you think, say and do?
  7. Could you describe a time when you chose to follow God in adverse circumstances, but the blessing or comfort came later rather than sooner? How does your understanding of God’s all presence influence your response to different circumstances? Feel free to write your thoughts or confessions here.
  8. What are the ideas presented in this lesson challenge your thinking and action? How does God walk with us today? How would you respond to God who is present everywhere?
  9. What additional thoughts or questions do you have on this study?
