Section Two > God's Faithfulness Is Perfect

A businessman gave a speech during a high school graduation ceremony.  He mentioned how his father’s will left a tremendous, long-lasting impact on how he would conduct his life in adulthood, highlighting the importance of trustworthiness and integrity.  His father was a government official.  In his will he asked that a cheque of $300 be issued to the government for the different items of stationery he took during his service.

The Apostle Paul writes about God’s faithfulness many times in his letters to the Corinthians, Thessalonians, and to his beloved spiritual son, Timothy. He writes of how Christ's followers should model God’s faithfulness.  Can we demonstrate the qualities of faithfulness and dependability in our relationship with others when we live in a society which promotes self-centeredness and everyone indulges in self-gratification?  In this study you will learn how God’s faithfulness can change our behaviour and help us to respond positively to life challenges.

  1. How would you define faithfulness in your own words? How important do you think faithfulness is to society’s health?
  2. Others fail us for a variety of reasons; some are unintentional. What are some reasons why others may fail to fulfill their commitments or to meet our needs or expectations? How does this compare or contrast with God’s character?
  3. How does God show His faithfulness to us? Consider Psalm 31:5; 143:1; 2 Timothy 1:12; 1 Corinthians 10:13; 2 Thessalonians 3:3.
  4. 2 Timothy 2:13, “if we are faithless, He remains faithful.” What does Paul mean in this verse?
  5. Philippians 1:6, “And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.” How does God’s character as shown in this verse encourage us today?
  6. Read Matthew 25:14-30. What can we learn from this parable? Why are we to be faithful to God?
  7. God makes thousands of promises in the Bible. Give a few examples here. How might a deeper knowledge of God’s promises help you to understand God’s faithfulness?
  8. Can you share an experience of God’s faithfulness in your own life? What did it look like and how did it affect your relationship with God? Yourself? Others? (If you’d prefer, you may share the experience of someone you know here.)
  9. What additional thoughts or questions do you have on this study?
  10. Please pray for me in these areas.
