Discover Your God

Section Two > God Knows Our Needs

Have you ever come on anything quite like this extravagant generosity of God, this deep, deep wisdom?  It’s way over our heads.  We’ll never, figure it out.  Is there anyone around who can explain God?  Anyone smart enough to tell him what to do?  Anyone who has done him such a huge favour that God has to ask his advice? " (Romans 11:33, 34 “The Message” by Eugene H. Peterson)

From time to time, we will hear announcement of the latest discoveries such as new theories in science, a new vaccination to combat a new form of virus or new computer technology.  Many times we wonder about what our lives would be like if we had full knowledge before making our important decisions.  Our magnificent Creator God knows everything.  “To say that God is omniscient is to say that He possess perfect knowledge and therefore no need to learn. But it is more:  it is to say that God has never learnt and cannot learn.” (A. W. Tozer) The greatness of God together with His goodness will give us a fuller picture of God’s nature.  In this study you will explore how knowing that God knows and cares about your needs can help you grow stronger in your walk with God.

  1. How would you define God’s omniscience in your own words? Be as descriptive as possible.
  2. In John 10:3, God the Son, Jesus Christ calls His own sheep “by name”. Why is this important to us? How does the psalmist describe the extent of God’s knowledge of us in Psalm 139: 2-4? What is the significance of knowing this omniscient attribute of God? Do you find it frightening or feel being encouraged by knowing that the God of the universe sees and knows everything perfectly? Why?
  3. Not only does God know everything about the world, He knows everything about you. He knows your dreams, your plans, your weaknesses and your strengths. How might believing in God’s omniscience affect how you view your past?
  4. How could believing in God’s omniscience influence your view of what you are facing now? How might it affect how you view your future? How would you respond to life challenges when you know God knows them all?
  5. Do you really believe that God knows everything, and that His way is best? What would be your reaction if God led you in a direction that seemed scary to you?
  6. Do most Christ-followers you know consistently seek for divine guidance? Why or why not? Do you know anyone who did seek direction from God? You may share his or her example or your own personal experience here.
  7. How does God teach us about the importance of seeking God’s guidance in James 1:5-7? How would you approach God for wisdom? How does doubt affect receiving wisdom from God?
  8. Roman 11:33-36 is a concluding doxology and also a conclusion after Paul set forth God’s plan of salvation for humanity (chapters 1-11). Please discuss how this passage helps you to grow in faith.
  9. What additional thoughts or questions do you have on this study?
  10. Please pray for me in these areas.
