The Church of Jesus Christ

Almost 2000 years ago, Jesus established "the church." What is it? How is it similar to or different from other groups of people that meet for various reasons? Most of us live in places where there are churches in evidence. Does it matter to God whether we are involved? How is the church compared to "a body"?
